BRINGING STRUCTURE TO LIFE!

IT'S WHAT WE DO!

The Sherer Method; a reinvention of the typical architectural process. When choosing Sherer Architects for your build or renovation, you are getting a dedicated team to guide you through the winding process involved with builds and renovations.

Our founder and CEO, Dan Sherer devised the Sherer Method while he was rock climbing. Upon returning home from his trip, Dan realized that just like climbing, design projects require thorough research and planning, a great team, a well-organized, flexible process, and a fearless mindset to face any challenges head-on. The lessons learned on his climbing trip have evolved into the process we now use in our business.

THE SHERER METHOD

BASE CAMP FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS

We start every project with Base Camp, our proprietary pre-design and schematic design process.

During Base Camp we conduct preliminary code and zoning research and create  preliminary site plans, floor plans, and/or renderings to get you the relevant info you need quickly and efficiently. We developed this process from combining over 30 years of architecture experience with lessons learned during Dan’s rock climbing excursions. We start by working with our client to establish a clear, detailed vision for their project and set goals to help us clarify and quantify what we want to achieve. Zoning, code and design review board needs, options and analysis, combined with the project vision, allow our clients to make the best decisions possible at this early phase of the process.

THE CHALLENGE

The Challenge is our proprietary design development process. As a rock climber, Dan discovered that the design process and preparing for a rock climb are very similar. Thorough preparation allows us to face and overcome our fears and conquer the challenge ahead.

The first step in The Challenge is to update the goals and vision with the client based on the research and discoveries made during Base Camp. Then, we move into design development, which includes a more finalized set of plans, elevations, renderings and even simple models which bring our concepts to life!

At the end of The Challenge you will have a good set of preliminary plans and a clear direction to move forward to The Climb.

THE CLIMB

To reach the summit of a project, you have to climb to your destination!  The Climb is about putting all of our research and problem-solving solutions into action.  Our talented team of architects, project leaders, project managers, draftsman, subject matter experts in code, zoning, historic preservation and more, along with consulting engineers, take all the information gathered in Base Camp and The Challenge and create the construction documents and drawings that will be submitted for permit, bid out and used for the construction of the building.

Based on your needs, The Climb can also include Landscaping Design and Interior Design services. These are important parts of any new project or major renovation. Our team will walk you through the local landscape ordinances and select plants suited for the environment and can provide hardscape design such as decorative walkways, patios, walls and gazebos.

THE SUMMIT

In The Sherer Method, The Summit is the goal, but it’s not the end. The Summit is the top of the mountain.

When we reach The Summit, the building is built, the project is complete, but our work is not done. Because each project is unique, parts of this stage are different for every project. We customize The Summit for each project and each client based on their individual needs and goals.

Maybe it’s a launch party? Maybe it’s a ribbon cutting? Maybe it’s a custom gift to hang in the lobby? Whatever it is, we want to celebrate this milestone with our clients and make it special! You define what the top of the mountain is for you and we will help you get there.

THE DESCENT

The last phase of our process is The Descent. It happens after we have wrapped up the project, but it’s one of the most important parts of the process. We follow up with everyone involved in the project – the client, our internal team, our consultants, the construction company, the county – and get feedback on the project. What went right? What could have been better? Are there any recommendations to make things smoother next time? Why wasn’t a deadline met?

Why is this important to our clients? Because we believe in integrity above all else. We ask all the tough questions because our goal is to constantly improve. If there was a mistake we want to find it and fix it so it doesn’t happen again. If there was a miscommunication or if a ball was dropped we want to fix the hole in the process. This is absolutely essential to our culture, our brand, and our success.
